Biography
Kim's inspiration to learn about printing and graphic communications came early, while working on her high school yearbook growing up in San Diego. She was intrigued by the production process and the flow of components coming together. Being able to actually get a degree in Printing Management was probably the most fun one can have while getting an education. There were some cool summer jobs while attending Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo including an old-style typographer in San Diego and the Dow Jones Wall Street Journal Plant in Palo Alto CA. It was at the WSJ that convinced Kim that there were much more creative ends of the business than a daily newspaper.
Kim put her gift for creating order from chaos into practice at a few of the most highly regarded printers in the Bay Area in the late 1980s: Singer Printing (known for their fine photographic reproduction), and at James H. Barry Company, a fast-paced environment serving ad agencies and designers in the City. There were long hours juggling production schedules with sales reps. and management and toiling in the estimating department. Kim soon realized that her production background would serve her well in the sales environment. Kim's production knowledge gives her the ability to provide concise answers to clients without the pesky "I'll get back to you."
With the changing atmosphere of printing in the Bay Area in the 1990's, it was clear that buyers here needed more equipment than was available, so Kim worked with a broker for ten years. No longer limited to a 40" sheet fed shop, Kim could take on runs in the millions, magazine inserts with inline die cutting, calendars, dimensional work, lenticular imaging, POP projects..the list went on. While some considered her a "sales rep" others called her an indispensable team member.
As the owner of Partner at Press, Kim is now working as an indispensable team partner for a variety of clients including many with demanding direct mail projects. Her project management and attention to detail keeps the jobs on track, on or under budget and the vendors on their toes. In a modest assessment of herself, Kim says, "I may not know how to do much myself, but I always know whom to call to get it done."
Personally, Kim is married and the proud mother on one perfect child. When she's not managing her daughter's busy schedule or your print projects, Kim enjoys gardening, entertaining, live shows and practices golf. On her bedside table are Orange is the New Black, The Grapes of Wrath, and Team of Rivals.
